DHIS2 for Education (Part 1) (🌐 ENG- FR)
SDG 4 on Quality Education calls for inclusive and equitable education that promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all. This can't be achieved without the use of quality data to guide decisions that can lead to the improvement of both equitable access to education as well as being able to track improvements in learning outcomes.

DHIS2 for Education extends the DHIS2 software platform from the health sector to education, for the collection, analysis, visualisation and use of individual and aggregate data from institutions of learning. It takes advantage of decades of experience with national-level Health Management Information Systems (HMIS), offering a stable, scalable and customisable Education Management Information System (EMIS) solution; a solution backed by international donor organisations as a public good.

Join us to discover how the DHIS2 community is part of a new shift, changing the landscape of improved data for improved decision-making for education stakeholders across the globe.

Local innovation for global progress (🌐 ENG- FR)
Supporting innovations and local adaptation is a core feature of DHIS2 as a software platform.  It is also a key strength of (and ongoing challenge for) the DHIS2 community.  In this session we will explore examples of local innovation and how they inform development of the core DHIS2 software platform.  We will also discuss how the global DHIS2 community can continue to work together to more effectively build, maintain, share, and use these innovations.

This session takes place in: Auditorium 5 - Vilhelm Bjerknes’ hus

DHIS2 can be used for managing stocks at the facility or community level and can be seamlessly integrated with full-scale, upstream national logistics management information systems.

In this session, we will present this approach and demo features for (i) report-based and transaaction-based stock management, (ii) cold chain equipment management (iii) remote temperature monitoring, (iv) a product catalogue and (v) performance management dashboards. This allows for facility-level stock visibility, triangulation health, and stock data, and timely information for both health programming and supply chain management decision making. Additionally, we will present use cases for this integrated approach by i+ Solutions and their Medexis eLMIS in Mali as well as a Tracker based solution for cold chain equipment monitoring in Malawi.

DHIS2 Maturity Profile - guiding DHIS2 strengthening in countries (part 1) (Aud 1)
This session takes place in: Auditorium 1 - Vilhelm Bjerknes’ hus

This session will present and discuss the newly developed DHIS2 Maturity Profile tool. This is an assessment and planning tool to help highlight the maturity of different aspects of a DHIS2 implementation, and support planning of strengthening activities in less mature areas. Over time, the tool will also help measure progress on system strengthening. The tool has been developed with support from The Global Fund, and is currently being conducted in large number of countries with support from the Global Fund and GAVI.

Mark Landry from the Global Fund and Carine Gachen from GAVI will give their perspective on this activity, and Saurabh Leekah from HISP India will share his experience from conducting the DHIS2 Maturity Profile.

DHIS2 within national architecture (🌐 ENG- FR)
DHIS2 is often a major system in a country health information system architecture.  But it is rarely the only system.  In this session we will reflect on country experiences from Norway, Kenya and Sri Lanka on how DHIS2 has been integrated into the broader architecture.  Not just at a technical level, but also how integation processes have been driven by the information needs of users.

This session takes place in: Auditorium 5 - Vilhelm Bjerknes’ hus

This session brings together stories from experience and practice in the field around using routine data. We will share how data is being used in practice, for what purpose and by whom. Different strategies and activities to promote use at different levels, different feedback and communication mechanisms, and designing for data use will be amongst the topics raised and discussed.

Speakers at this session include: Koffi Siliadin on regional dashboards in Togo; Arthur Heywood on data use practices in Chinsali, Zambia; Clement Kihinga on scorecards in Tanzania, and; Eric Munyambabazi on data use applications in Uganda.

Please add questions and comments on the Community of Practice for this session.

Solving off-line challenges in an almost-connected world (Aud 2)
This session takes place in: Auditorium 2 - Vilhelm Bjerknes’ hus

What is the session about
The MSF field work is supported by the 6 MSF operational sections. Each one defines independently the strategic direction of the section. This results in different DHIS2 architectures to solve a common issue: the intense use of DHIS2 in remote areas with poor, intermittent, or shared internet connections.
We will show the architecture of some of these implementations, the mentioned challenges and solutions. In particular:
  • Metadata and data Synchronization challenges and solutions
  • A Reactive Vaccination Campaign App
  • Praxis: a progressive offline/online webapp that interfaces the user and the central DHIS2 instance.

We would like also to have an open discussion and share experiences between participants facing same problematics.

About MSF
MSF provides medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. Our teams are made up of tens of thousands of health professionals, logistic and administrative staff - most of them hired locally.
In 2020, our teams conducted medical activities in 88 countries. To illustrate with some figures, there were, for example, 9.904.200 outpatient consultations, 1.008.500 vaccinations against measles in response to outbreaks or 306.800 assisted births.

AI / Machine Learning and DHIS2 (Aud 4)
This session takes place in: Auditorium 4 - Vilhelm Bjerknes’ hus

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is often described as the new electricity”. Data Science projects are complex and expensive to implement and funding in the government sector space for AI initiatives is still not commonplace. At the same time, many Data Science projects fail leaving one to ask how do you even get started?

At HISP-SA, we have the vision to expand our work in Artificial Intelligence, specifically Machine Learning and Chatbots, to increase the value chain to customers. We have prototyped a machine learning model to predict staff attrition in our HRIS (Human Resources Information System) work and how we utilise Machine Learning in the interoperable architecture to give the department a list of future attrition employees to intervene through activities such as preventing attrition, planning for replacement and training.

Macro-Eyes has deployed machine learning to generate highly accurate forecasts of essential medicines and vaccines in Sierra Leone. Macro-Eyes will discuss the process for developing AI driven forecasting models, the data used and how they were benchmarked.

DHIS2 Beyond: Catalyzing DHIS2 into new domains (🌐 ENG- FR)
DHIS2 is well established in the health domain, including as a national-scale HMIS in nearly 70 countries. The global response to the COVID-19 pandemic showed how countries can leverage existing DHIS2 capacity and technology to respond to new challenges, as countries across the globe rapidly scaled their DHIS2 platforms for pandemic response. Many countries are now using this opportunity to catalyze the use of DHIS2 beyond the COVID-19 health emergency -- including establishing electronic registries for routine immunization, scaling up coverage of DHIS2 to unreached facilities, and strengthening case-based surveillance for other diseases. In addition, countries are exploring the use of DHIS2 in sectors such as education, agriculture, and more as a platform for e-governance. This session dives into country perspectives, lessons learned, local innovation and capacity strengthening from DHIS2 implementation before and during COVID-19 can be taken forward to strengthen information architecture with DHIS2, for health and beyond.

This session takes place in: Auditorium 5 - Vilhelm Bjerknes’ hus

Master facility lists (MFL) and facility registries are critically important systems for countries' digital infrastructure. In this session we will explore what DHIS2 can do and what it can not do as a MFL. TO help fill the gap, Terraframe and PEPFAR will also present their innovations to support MFL.

You can have a look at the presentations’ summaries on the DHIS2 Community of Practice:

Triangulation & use of immunization data (part 1) (🌐 ENG- FR)
Using data from different times, spaces, and people is a valuable way to corroborate findings, reduce bias, and get a more complete picture of the information collected from immunization and surveillance data. This session is a great opportunity to discover how to use DHIS2 to increase the validity and credibility of the collected data via triangulation dashboards, and how to leverage on predefined dashboards to ensure data use.
